My
Story

Hey, I'm Eben, an Information Technology graduate (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of New Hampshire. Throughout my life I've always been attracted to learning about and discussing new technology trends in consumer tech, and electronics in general. I started a YouTube channel nearly 10 years ago (MacEbes) that's still going today just to talk about and share my opinions on new tech advancements. Previously I worked on developing diagnostic data apps for a robotics club, which ended up placing in the top 30 globally for the FRC World's competition. This experience working in large scale team environment prepared me well for my eventual leap into the IT field in college. At UNH, I learned a lot about in-production development of software, as well as team leadership skills. As the software lead and project manager, I was able to guide my team to the successful development of a virtual reality tour for a local submarine museum. I was also the tech support/web design lead and business admin helping to launch a coaching platform in 2021.

I founded EOSS after college because I saw firsthand the rising dangers that phone addiction and reliance on devices caused in children. I was lucky to grow up in the 'in-between', where we had some device use, but not until I was 11 did I get my first device. I believe that exposure later helped me break away from the need for these devices. Even when I got my first phone at 14, I rarely used it for browsing, and still frequently did other activities with friends. However, having a sister 9 years younger, you get a lot of experience with how younger people view these same devices. There has been a radical shift in what these devices mean for everybody, and especially for kids. I used my first laptop to create, whether that be for discussion videos, or making games with friends, the focus was on 'what can I make with this?'. I gravitated towards games like Minecraft or Robocraft for the way they incentivized building and designing your own creations. I sought out videos and creators on YouTube who also had that same passion. As the introduction of devices got earlier and earlier, and the type of content being consumed became more focused on sensory overload than critical thinking, we lost that connection.

We lost that connection.

EOSS is about safety, but it's also about creating a healthy relationship with screens in general. Parental control apps, screen time settings, restrictions on apps, don't necessarily do that. EOSS's goal is to create a healthy relationship between the consumer and the screens, by tailoring the advice, the restrictions, and the education to each individual's needs.

Thanks for reading,

Eben
